Summary
Rotation Wheels are ubiquitous in institutional trading. Lots of brokers and order management systems (OMS) use wheels. Fundamentally, they work by randomizing orders across different algorithms by setting a percentage (weight) of orders that flow to each algo. Our product did that as well. But where other products stopped, our rotation wheel showed you exactly how well you're doing, and how well you could be doing.
We started by back-testing the rotation wheel weights against an evenly-weighted strategy. Our quants designed custom analytics to rank what was dragging down the performance of the wheel, and we then back-test those to see how we can change the weighting to improve performance in the future. We built an email alerting system to notify clients monthly of our new recommendations. Our Rotation UI allowed clients to log in and make the changes themselves instead of needing a client rep to do it for them.

Weights and Measures
Our quantitative analysts developed an innovative way to rank and separate algo/broker performance. We displayed that using an aligned horizontal bar chart which intuitively shows where the high performers are. Lined up with current weights, our reccommended Smart Weights, and the new weights, it's a simple, but powerful interface.
Back-tested and forward-looking
Overall wheel performance depends on a lot of factors, but knowing the ideal weighting has been almost impossible to figure out until now. Seeing lost revenue in big red and green numbers is a powerful reminder to update your weights regularly.

We built an email alerting system to let you know if you needed to log in to update your wheel weights. They went out monthly, allowing clients to build a regular cadence of reviewing and updating their wheels.
